He accepts that money is a motivator at work, but once people perceive that they are paid fairly, then they become much more motivated by intrinsic elements. These can be considered as "external" methods of motivation. In fact, they can lead to worse performance.įor simple, straightforward tasks, Pink concedes that traditional financial rewards or a carrot & stick approach to motivation DO work. ![]() Pink argues that the evidence of scientific studies on motivation and rewards suggests that, for any work task that involves most than the most basic cognitive challenge, basic financial reward systems simply do not work. His book - Drive: the Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us - was published in 2009 and very quickly became a bestseller with its focus on the importance and effectiveness of three intrinsic elements to motivation at work: autonomy, mastery and purpose. Daniel Pink is a modern writer on business & management, with a strong focus on the changing nature of work and the workplace. ![]() ![]() Remarkable and different compared to the books we are used to, with only one problem, the size of the Greek edition compared to the English one. It’s times like this when we secretly wish that there is a Dexter Morgan hiding in the wings. Or could it be the fact that he only kills “bad” people? Ah, there’s the ticket. Do we love him because he has a macabre but great sense of humor? Maybe, but would you like Jeffery Dahmer if he had been spouting out witty one-liners? Perhaps we like him because he is a great family man and good with the children? Fry does a wonderful job conveying the beginning of existence, and then moves through the development of the world with the Titans, the Olympian gods, the nymphs, the lesser gods, and all other divine beings. Stephen Fry has compiled the core myths from Greek mythology, beginning with the cosmogony or creation of the universe with the protogenoi or primordial god Chaos who was quickly followed by Gaia (Earth), Tartarus (the depths), Erebus (darkness), Nyx (night), Hemera (day) and Aether (light). Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold by Stephen Fry is his first book in his Great Mythology series and a book that has been physically on my shelf for years (probably since it came out in 2017). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The conversations bring out their very different personalities and styles and reveal a wealth of fascinating detail about their theories and beliefs.
